Canon EOS R50 V

The Canon EOS R50 V is a compact video camera with interchangeable lenses. The camera is designed specifically for video and has the familiar RF mount, so you can choose from a huge range of lenses for your video productions.

You record 4K video for up to 2 hours. These recordings are oversampled from 6K: the camera films in 6K and then downscales to 4K 30p, so you benefit from better image quality with more detail. For slow motion you record in 4K 60p or Full HD 120p. Canon Log 3 helps with colour grading, aspect markers help you frame your shots and time code synchronises your recordings. With false colour, zebras and focus peaking you check exposure and focus while filming.

The R50 V is designed to be easy to work with. The comfortable grip sits nicely in the hand, the video-first mode dial puts the focus on video, and there is a separate button for photos. The record button on the front lets you start filming quickly, and the vertical tripod socket is handy for vertical recordings. With the power zoom lever you zoom smoothly and quietly without turning the lens. The 24.2-megapixel APS-C sensor and Dual Pixel CMOS AF II make subjects easy to detect.

The vari-angle touchscreen lets you see and adjust settings even from awkward angles, and the microphone and headphone jacks ensure good sound. For online creation the R50 V has Wi-Fi and a USB connection with UVC and UAC: your computer recognises the camera as a webcam, up to 4K 60p. You can also livestream and stream via HDMI.

The Canon RF-S 10-18mm F/4.5-6.3 IS STM is an ultra-wide-angle lens that is suitable for photographers, videographers and vloggers alike. With a focal length of 10-18 mm you capture wide shots of landscapes and architecture, among other things, and it is a good choice for travel too. It also works well in compact spaces with little room to move.

The lens is compact and light: weighing just 150 grams and measuring 44.9 mm in length, there is always room for it in your bag. PMo and UD glass elements prevent chromatic aberration, and the optical image stabilisation of up to 4 stops helps you take sharp images even in low light. This gives you good image quality in a compact housing.

On the R50 V the range corresponds to about 16-29 mm in full frame terms.
