The Tamron 70-300mm F4.0-5.6 Di VC USD Canon is the first lens from Tamron to feature an ultrasonic silent drive focus motor (USD). The technology uses high-frequency ultrasonic vibrations that generate the energy to turn the metal rotor. The result is fast and, above all, virtually silent focusing. This makes the lens particularly well suited to sports and wildlife photography. At the same time, Vibration Compensation (VC) provides an equally steady image. The lens elements are not directly attached to the body of the lens, but are held in place by three metal balls. These balls dampen the shaking of the lens into a smooth movement. As a result, your photos suffer considerably less from motion blur when shooting handheld and in difficult lighting conditions.
The lens consists of 17 elements in 12 groups. These include an LD (Low Dispersion) and an XLD (Extra Low Dispersion) lens element to improve contrast and clarity. In addition, the BBAR (Broad-Band Anti Reflection) multilayer coatings keep ghosting and lens flare to a minimum. The supplied lens hood completes the picture by keeping harsh sunlight out of the lens. With the USD drive, focusing is smooth and fast. You can switch from autofocus to manual focus instantly by simply turning the focus ring. That way you can step in right away when an important moment appears but is not prominent in the frame. With internal focusing, focusing takes place inside the lens itself, so the lens always stays the same size. Because the front ring does not rotate, your polarisation filter stays in the right position.
