The Canon EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM is a lightweight telephoto lens with an 800mm focal length, made from magnesium alloy. Thanks to the fixed focal length, you can take beautiful photos without distortion. Despite its impressive size, the magnesium alloy keeps the weight of the lens very low. This lens has the same lightweight, weather-resistant construction as the rest of the L-series super telephoto lenses, along with their excellent control layout, weight distribution and mechanical manual focus. An ultrasonic autofocus motor (USM) provides fast, smooth and silent AF. Thanks to its sonor technology, you get the most out of this lens quickly and without disturbing noise. With a Focus Preset function, you can save focus settings and recall them quickly whenever you need them. An AF stop button pauses autofocus at the press of a button, and manual focus lets you focus precisely by hand, even in AF mode. With the focus range limiter, you save time by limiting the focus distance to the range that matters for your subject, so the lens doesn't have to search the full range. The two image stabilisation modes allow you to use shutter speeds up to four times slower without a noticeable increase in blur. Mode 1 works best for stationary subjects, while mode 2 is optimised for moving subjects.
For optimal visual performance, the lens contains four types of special optical elements: aspherical elements to correct spherical aberrations, and fluorite, UD and Super UD (ultra-low dispersion) elements to eliminate secondary chromatic aberrations. Interference such as sun flare or distortion doesn't stand a chance against these coating technologies. An integrated, rotating tripod collar provides balance and stability, and the rear drop-in filter slot and holder make it easy to use a 52mm filter.
